Portia Nelson

Betty Mae Nelson (Portia Nelson), actress, singer and songwriter: born Brigham City, Utah 27 May 1920; died New York 6 March 2001. PORTIA NELSON was one of the most popular cabaret singers of the 1950s, the era when such New York supper clubs as Bon Soir and the Blue Angel featured glamorously gowned singers of sophisticated songs. Nelson was also a composer, a Hollywood vocal coach to stars including Susanna Foster and Rock Hudson, and an actress, appearing as Sister Berthe in the film version of The Sound of Music.
