Dead Tight Five

Blemish, Dead Tight 5’s debut album, is Dangerous, Addictive and “In Your Face” hard rock. Blazing on the Memphis airways, Dead Tight 5 is on their way to join the ranks of other recently signed Memphis bands like Dust for Life, Saliva and Primer 55 The Memphis based quintet formed in 1998 when Chad Smith and Mike Dover met at a Joan Jett show in Mississippi. Like magic, Smith and Dover crossed paths and started talking about forming a new band. “Basically, it was ‘Hey man, let’s put a band together and do it right,’” says Dover, drummer for DT5. The two Rockers rejoined in Memphis and started searching for the right players to build the band. Their search did not take long before the found guitarist Randall X. Rawlings. “Randy is a 400 pound gorilla,” says Smith. “I love to watch Randy practice. He’s got a pedal board a mile long. Man, he can work. He’s got like three feet going. Amazing.” Their next find was Shane Hutchison as the only logical choice for the second guitar spot. Now all they needed was a great bass player, which they found in Brian “Cheeze” Hall. I’d been approached by a lot of different bands in town and just wasn’t interested. When I heard their music, it sparked my interest.” Once all together, Dead Tight 5 starting writing and produced a 3-song demo called “Floating in the Dynamite Pond” with producer Malcolm Springer. But, the labels didn’t bite on the demo. So back to work they went producing a new CD titled Blemish. “It sounds like a million bucks,” says Smith. “Blemish” was produced by Malcolm Springer (Full Devil Jacket, Liquid Gang, and was an engineer on the last Matchbox Twenty record) and Ross Rice (Human Radio). With songs like “Far from God,” the first single to be released, is the reason why people on the local scene are predicting Dead Tight 5 will be the next Memphis band to be signed to a major label. High-energy shows and an ever-growing fan base prove, to the world, that these 5 guys came to make a mark in music history. “If I’m completely soaked from head to toe in sweat, then that’s a show,” exclaims Dover. “If I’m not like that, I feel like I’ve ripped off somebody.” The name “Dead Tight 5” stands for one thing and one thing alone – the unity of these five talented guys.
